Studio Policies and Procedures

 

TUITION:

 

Tuition is due by the first class of every month.

 

Tuition is non-refundable. Tuition is based on a 9-month class year that runs from September to May. The monthly fee remains the same regardless of the number of classes in any given month. Most months have 4 classes; however, sometimes there will be 5. December is a short month. There are no refunds given for missed classes, due to bad weather or other student absences.

 

Monthly Statements will not be mailed to remind you of your tuition expense.  You will, however be notified after the 20th of each month if tuition and/or late fees have not been paid. If payment has not been received by the last day of the month, an additional $15 late fee will be added to your account and a second reminder will be made.  Dancers will not be allowed to participate in class if your account is more than 2 months past due. All previously paid for items, such as recital and competition fees, will be forfeited if you choose not to return to the studio. All delinquent accounts will be turned over to a collection agency.

 

Tuition Guidelines:

·         Due by the first class of every month

·         A $15 late fee is added if payment is not made

·         Returned checks will be charged a $25.00 service fee

·         Late fee policies are strictly enforced

·         Dance In Motion accepts cash and check

·         Family discounts given for 2 or more dancers

 

PAYMENT OPTIONS:

DIM accepts Cash and Checks only.  Checks may be mailed or dropped off at the studio. Payments can be given to the front desk or there is a drop slot inside the front door for payments.

 

DANCE CODE:

 

Dancers must wear appropriate dance clothes to class.  DIM has a strict dress code.  Dance class is not a gym class.  A dress code ensures that the teacher will be able to see a dancer’s mistakes.  A dress code also teaches discipline.  By “dressing the part”, the dancers will FEEL like dancers.  Dance attire can be purchased at the front lobby.

 

Ages 3-4 – Any solid colored leotard with black or pink tights, skirt optional

 

Ages 7 and Up – (ballet, jazz, lyrical) Any solid color leotard or fitted tank top, black leggings, black or tan tights or any color booty shorts, ballet skirt optional.

 

Hip Hop – Any comfortable clothing.

 

If a student arrives to class in inappropriate clothing, I will have clothes they can change into.  If it happens more than three times your child will be asked to sit out.  Dress code notes will be sent home when there is a violation of the dress/hair code.

 

HAIR:

Hair needs to be tied back securely during class.

 

Ponytail holders MAY be available at the front desk. A neat appearance helps your child feel like a dancer and realize that dance class time is special. Loose hair is distracting to both the dancer and the teacher. Please place an extra ponytail holder in your dancer’s bag.

 

SHOES:

 

Dancers are required to wear the proper shoes to each class. For recital, ballet shoes are pink, jazz shoes are black, lyrical shoes are tan and hip hop shoes are any colored sneaker (no street shoes). Other colors are acceptable for class use only.

 

If your child dances in a jazz routine, they must have jazz shoes.

 

DANCE SHOES SHOULD BE WORN INSIDE ONLY.  Wearing dance shoes outside will ruin the shoe and is harmful to the dance floor.  Please make sure your dancer wears street shoes to and from the studio and only wears their dance shoes inside.  Please put your dancer’s name in their shoes as it’s easy to get them mixed up. A sharpie marker on jazz and ballet shoes is an easy way to uniquely identify shoes.

 

WAITING ROOM:

 

For those parents/guardians wanting to stay and watch their child/children dance there is a waiting room available for you.  If you decide to wait, please be respectful of the dancers and the instructors and wait QUIETLY!  It is very easy for noise to travel into the dance room and the dancers get distracted when the noise level goes up.

 

For those who drop off their dancers, please do not leave siblings or friends that are NOT dancing during class hours.  They are more than welcome to watch if there is an adult present, but cannot be left unattended.

 

Gossiping about other children or teachers is not tolerated at Dance In Motion.  If it is heard, you will be asked to leave.

 

MUSIC:

Dancers are strongly encouraged to have their recital music copied onto a CD in order to practice at home. A CD will be provided for you with the music, for a $5.00 fee.  If asked, other music can be put on the CD, such as practice music, stretching music, etc.

 

COSTUMES:

Your costume balance will be provided for you at the beginning of each year.  This gives you a heads up and allows you the opportunity to make payments along the way.

 

Anyone who drops dance class after the 15th of December, will be responsible for the entire costume cost.

 

STUDIO CLOSINGS: (Please mark your calendars!)

If the Abilene School District is closed due to weather, so is the studio.

 

The studio will be closed on the following Holidays:

Thanksgiving Break

Christmas Break

Spring Break

Easter Holiday

Memorial Day

 

The studio will also be closed in the event that Dickinson County is under a Tornado Watch or Warning.

 

If at any time you are uncomfortable bringing your dancer to class due to the weather, we urge you to error on the side of caution and stay home.

 

RECITAL:

 

ecital fee will be $25 per family.  This will help with the rental of the Stiefel and all the staff for rehearsal and recital.  Late fees will be added to accounts that do not pay the recital fee on time.  The student will not be able to receive their costume until the recital fee is paid.  Recital fees are non-refundable.

 

MAKE-UP:

Make up for the recital and recital pictures will be the same for all the dancers.  All dancers are required to provide their own make-up.  The make-up colors that will be used are:

Mary Kay eye shadow – color Hazelnut

Mary Kay blush – color Sparkling Cider

Mary Kay lip balm – color Blush

Any black eyeliner and mascara

 

If you do not have these particular colors, you can purchase them at the studio around the time of recital and recital pictures OR if you have colors that are similar, but a different brand, those will be acceptable as well.

 

TICKETS:

With the $25 recital fee, you will receive 6 tickets to the spring recital that is held at the Stiefel Theatre in Salina the first weekend in June.  If you need more tickets, tickets are $5.00 at the studio or at the door the day of the show.  Children 8 and younger get in free.

 

ATTENDANCE / ABSENCES / MAKE-UP CLASSES:

 

Attendance is taken at each class. Good attendance is very important to each dancer’s success, as well as the progress of the class as a whole. When a teacher must “go back” for a student who has missed material, it is unfair to the rest of the class. Please make every effort to have your child at class each week.

 

SICKNESS / INJURY:

 

In the event of a dancer falling ill, please keep them home from class in order to reduce the chance of spreading the illness.  If a dancer is injured they are encouraged to observe class.  We would ask that you give us a call to let you know why you are absent.

 

CLASS PLACEMENT:

 

Dancers are placed according to age and ability. If a child is more advanced, a higher level of class may be needed to strengthen the dancer’s ability and give them a challenge. In most cases, dancers are with others their own age.

 

Dancers are not placed because of friendships or how long they have been dancing. They are placed strictly by the level of technique that they demonstrate on a weekly basis. A child is placed in a class where he/she will feel confident in order to promote the highest level of self-esteem.

 

Please trust the staff’s years of experience in the decision for class placement. We are professionals and always act in the best interest of the dancer. Dancers progress at different levels and advancing a dancer before they are ready can create stress, a loss of interest and discouragement.

 

SOLOS, DUETS, TRIOS AND OTHER SPECIAL NUMBERS:

Solos, Duets, Trios and other special numbers will be by invitation only.  This is considered a class, therefore; will be charged accordingly.  The following is the criteria needed in order to be considered for one of these classes:

 

Clean Double or Triple Pirouette, Splits (all three), Clean Jeté and Middle Leap, Straight and Bent leg Fouettés, must be able to pick up routines quickly and must practice at home.

 

Any dancer/dancers doing one of these special numbers will be required to take the routine to competition.

 

When Mrs. Lacey feels a dancer is ready for a solo, duet or any kind of special number, she will let that dancer and parent know.  Please do not ask Mrs. Lacey if your dancer can do this kind of routine.

 

DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP:

Dancers are not allowed to stand outside the building waiting for a ride!

 

Small children need to be escorted to and from the studio.  Please do not encourage your dancer to find you out in the parking lot. Never leave your dancer unattended in any part of the studio at any time, other than the scheduled class time.  You may call the studio at 785-263-3209 and we will send your child to you.

 

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE MORE THAN 15 MINUTES EARLY TO CLASS!!

Students that are still at the studio 15 minutes AFTER their class has ended will be charged $1 per minute after that.  If there is a reason that you cannot pick your dancer up in that time frame, please call the studio at 263-3209 to let us know.

 

Please remember, DIM is not a daycare. We do not want to be responsible for dancers that arrive too early or are not picked up on time. If you have arrived early, you must wait with your child until it is time to start class.

 

LOST and FOUND:

 

There is a lost and found box at the front desk. If something is left at the studio, it will be put in the lost and found box.  The lost and found box will be emptied and donated to the food and clothing bank after the recital each year.  If something is found that is identified with a name, we will send you an email letting you know we found it.  By marking all of your items, it will ensure that you get them returned to you.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED:

 

We are constantly emailing & sending home new information for you. We will also post information on the white board, so please take the time to read the board each time you come into the studio.

If you are unsure about any times, dates or places of any up-coming events please ask.

It is your responsibility to keep informed of all dates.

 

Please take the time to read the emails and papers that come home and mark your calendar for all important rehearsals and payment dates.  All of this information is emailed or sent home with the dancer.  DIM will work very hard to keep you informed and provide plenty of advance notice about important dates. As the season progresses, additional information will be emailed or sent home.
